Quartz — Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Quartz (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares
information when you use the Quartz mobile application (the “App”). By using the App you
agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your
email address and an encrypted password, or, if you sign in with Apple, the
identifier provided by Apple. You may optionally provide a display name.
- Watch photos you submit. When you scan a watch we temporarily
receive the captured image to identify the model. The image is processed by
Quartz and trusted AI / vision providers such as Groq and Google Cloud Vision.
Images are used only to return your scan result, are not used by Quartz to train
AI models, and are deleted from our servers after identification except for
short-lived diagnostic records described below.
- Collection data. Watches you save to your collection, archive, or
wishlist, along with timestamps.
- Subscription status. If you purchase a subscription we receive
your subscription state from RevenueCat (active / expired / cancelled). We do not
receive your payment card data — Apple handles billing.
- Product analytics and device data. We collect app interaction
events such as app opens, scan starts, successful scans, paywall views, purchases,
device type, app version, and coarse location derived from network data. We use
this to understand and improve the App, not for advertising or tracking across
other apps or websites.
- Diagnostic data. Crash reports, scan matching logs, candidate
matches, and failed-scan details so we can improve reliability. These records may
be linked to your Quartz user ID while your account exists.
We do not collect contacts, precise location, microphone audio, health data, or
browsing activity outside the App.
2. How we use information
- To identify watches you photograph and return results.
- To save and display your collection across devices.
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App.
- To respond to support requests.
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
3. Service providers
We share limited information with the following providers strictly to operate the App:
- Supabase — authentication, database, file storage.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store payments.
- RevenueCat — subscription state and receipt validation.
- Amplitude — product analytics and app interaction events.
- Groq — AI model used to identify watches in submitted photos.
- Google Cloud Vision — visual search / image understanding used
as part of watch identification.
- Firecrawl — public web retrieval for watch reference and market
enrichment. We send watch-related queries, not personal account data.
- eBay Browse API — public market data used to compute reference
prices. We send only the watch reference, never any personal data.
- Wikimedia Commons and other public sources — public reference
images and attribution metadata used for editorial watch or celebrity context
where available.
These providers are bound by their own privacy and security obligations and may only
use information for the purposes we authorise.
4. Data retention
We keep your account information and collection for as long as your account exists.
Submitted scan images are retained only for the duration of the identification
request and are then deleted. Diagnostic logs tied to your account are deleted
when you delete your account. Aggregated or de-identified operational metrics may
be retained for product analytics and abuse prevention.
5. Account deletion
You can delete your account directly inside the App at any time:
Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Deletion permanently removes your
account, your collection, your scan history, pending scan candidates, user-linked
scan diagnostics, and other Quartz data tied to your user ID. This action is
immediate and cannot be undone. Deleting your Quartz account does not cancel an
active App Store subscription; manage subscriptions in your Apple ID settings.
If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also revoke Quartz from
Apple ID Settings → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple.
Apple receipts retained for legal reasons under Apple’s policies are out of our
control.
6. Children
Quartz is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your
jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a
child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. No system
is perfectly secure, but we apply reasonable administrative, technical, and
physical safeguards.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (EU/UK/California and others) you may have the right to
access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or
restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights from inside the
App, or by contacting us at the address below.
9. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be
announced inside the App or by email. The “Effective date” above will be updated.
